Bacon & Cheese Dip



For the Bread:


1 large, round sourdough

1/3 cup melted garlic butter

Salt & pepper, to taste 


For the Cheese Dip:

1 tub cream cheese, softened

½ cup Hellmann’s Tangy Mayonnaise – Hellmann’s Creamy Mayonnaise can be used to replace Tangy (this is optional for written recipe only)

2 tbsp hot sauce, of choice

½ cup cheddar cheese, grated

½ cup mozzarella cheese, grated 

1 cup bacon bits, fried

½ - ¾ cup spring onion, chopped




For the Bread: 

1. Pre-heat the oven to 200°C and grease a large baking tray. 


2. Cut off the top ¼ of the loaf of bread. Cut this quarter into 2 cm thick bread strips.


3. Place the bread strips on one side of the baking sheet and drizzle with garlic butter and seasoning. 


4. Scoop out the insides of the bread, leaving a 3cm layer of bread to from the bottom of the bread bowl.


5. Brush the inside of the bread with the garlic butter and place alongside the bread sticks. Bake for 10-12 minutes removing the bread sticks after 5 minutes.


For the Cheese Dip:

1. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese, Hellman’s Tangy Mayonnaise and hot sauce. Mix until combined. 


2. Stir in ¾ cup of the cheese,¾ cup bacon bits and ¾ of the spring onion. Mix well. Season if necessary. 


3. Carefully spoon the filling into the bread bowl and top with remaining cheese and bacon bits. 


4. Reduce the heat to 180°Cand bake for 40 minutes or until the dip is heated through and the cheese has melted completely.


5. Garnish with the remaining spring onion. Serve with crackers, prepared bread sticks, carrots, celery sticks and ENJOY!
