METHOD

1. Prepare the braai for direct cooking over medium-low heat (160-180°C) and lightly grease a medium-sized braai grid. *Chef’s Tip: Alternatively, bake the braai pie in the oven!

2. On a lightly floured surface, roll the Today Puff Pastry out to a 60cmx35cm rectangle. Cut the rectangle in half to form two 30cmx35cm rectangles.

For the savoury braai pie:

3. Spread the mayonnaise over one of the pastry rectangles, avoiding the edges. Spread the mustard on the other pastry rectangle, avoiding the edges.

4. Generously layer the Pick n Pay Sliced Sandwich Ham and grated Pick n Pay Medium Fat Mozzarella over the mayonnaise. Place the pastry rectangle with mustard over the other pastry rectangle, ensuring the edges line up. Using a fork, neatly crimp the edges to seal the dough. *Chef’s Tip: Use any fillings of your choice! For the sweet braai pie:

5. Spread the Pick n Pay Medium Fat Cream Cheese Plain over one of the pastry rectangles, avoiding the edges. Spread the tinned caramel on the other pastry rectangle, avoiding the edges.

6. Generously layer the Pick n Pay Strawberries and milk chocolate pieces over the cream cheese. Place the pastry rectangle with tinned caramel over the other pastry rectangle, ensuring the edges line up. Using a fork, neatly crimp the edges to seal the dough.

7. Transfer the pie to the prepared braai grid and brush each side evenly with egg.

8. Place the braai grid over the coals and cook the pie for 20 minutes, turning the pie every 2 minutes until the pastry is cooked and golden brown and the filling has melted.

9. Transfer the braai pie to a chopping board and slice into 8 pieces.

10. For the savoury braai pie, garnish with freshly chopped parsley and a seasonal salad. For the sweet braai pie, serve with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and a sprig of mint and ENJOY!
